General Meeting – November 5, 2013
Location and Time:
  Meeting held at Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Room 003-004 Lower Level, Westminster, MD and called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Bridget McCullough, President.

Secretary's Report:
  No business meeting was held on 10/01/13. Motion to approve minutes of September 3, 2013 meeting by Nancy Hoffa; second by Peggy Miller. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report:
  Janet Breeding indicated the report would be included in the minutes. Janet announced receipt of a check for $753.24 from Southern States for the S.H.O.W. Program. Many thanks to all of the CCEC members and friends that submitted the proof of purchase seals!

Equestrian Center Report: Darlene Welsh
  Darlene Welsh reported she will be sending out contracts for the Pony Club Games Day on 5/18/14; security deposit for Harrison Mule Days is being refunded.
Equestrian Center Maintenance Report:
  Peggy Miller reported since the signs for Rules of Use for the Equestrian Center and Instructors Rules were attached to the gates at both rings near the combination lock; she has only once found the gates unlocked. Thank you to the volunteers for mowing the Center: Janet Breeding,Bob & Peggy Miller.

Thanks to the Harrisons! They mowed the hayfield as well as the Center area with a large mower. Mule Days was held with beautiful weather and great attendance. Thanks to all who donated items for the bucket of goodies for the Silent Auction; it was a popular item. The single entrance/exit continues to be a problem when large groups use the Center. Attendees suggested to create a second entrance/exit to help with the traffic congestion with large groups.

The water tank has been drained for the season. The two portable judges stands have been painted and stored under the shade pavilion for the winter.

Special thanks to Mike and Jessica Dustin for the new, heavy duty 10’ long picnic table – built by Mike Dustin!
RECREATION AND PARKS REPORT
  Tina Shupp reminded members of the Volunteer of the Year program to be held on Thursday, 11/07/13 at the Carroll Arts Center. The CCEC will recognize Mike & Jessica Dustin; however, they are unable to attend. Bridget McCullough will accept the award on their e. At the December 3rd CCEC meeting, the presentation will be made to Mike & Jessica.
Old Business
  CCEC Polo Shirts/Sweatshirts, etc.
Carolyn Garber reported she is compiling the information for a report at the December meeting.

Evaluation of Special Presentation 10/01/13
Pasture Management by Amy Burk, Ph.D Discussion of the event was held; conclusion was that it was very informative and an overall success. Bridget McCullough will pursue a speaker for special presentation topics of hay and poisonous plants/weed identification in 2014.

Trail Work Day at Gillis Falls on 09/07/13
Peggy Miller reported the weather was great and the people who helped were even greater! Thanks to Janet Breeding, Connie & Chris Allen, Jessica & Mike Dustin, Cathy & Samantha Poland and Bob & Peggy Miller. Mike Dustin brought a Bobcat and cleared almost all the trails in less than 3 hours; cleaned up the party area and pushed trees off the trail. Lunch was enjoyed by all.

Trail Work Day at Morgan Run on 09/14/13
Carolyn Garber thanked Janet Breeding, Joseph Crook, The Dustin Family (Mike, Jessica, Alex and Chloe), Karen & Frank Durilla, Michael Harkin, Mickey Rogers, Sally Suder; and Howard & Marty Lanham (who also provided lunch!) Thanks to Dave Radcliffe for mowing prior to the work day so we could get in to work.

Trail Work Day at Piney Run on 09/21/13
Bridget McCullough thanked Steve Weaver, Linda Polzin and an unnamed dog walked who helped when the chainsaw became pinched in a fallen tree. The condition of the new crossing was checked.

Trail Work Day at Union Mills on 09/28/13
Nancy Hoffa reported a great group of Girl Scouts from Silver Run and their parents came to help. Jessica Dustin provided an email report and thanked Wendy & Ryan Knarr, Alyssa Leashear, Kendra & Alicia Heard, Kendall Rill, Cory Courtney, Melissa Strine, Marie Overman, Ted & Kristy Kraus, Nancy Hoffa, Connie & Alexis Allen, Braden Lau, Mike, Chloe and Alex Dustin.

Trail Work Day at Morgan Run on 10/06/13
Carolyn Garber reported fourteen volunteers (including three on horseback) made their way through the encroaching overgrowth to clear trails. The volunteers enjoyed a picnic lunch after several hours of hard work on trails. Thanks to Dave Radcliffe (who mowed in September) and to Joe Dragan, Michael Harkins, Randy Hulse, Theone Andrew, Marty Lanham, Howard Lanham, Frank Durilla, Karen Durilla, Stephanie Ickes, Beth Stenger, Jessica Dustin, Connie Allen, Alexis Allen.
New Business
  MD Horse Council News
Janet Breeding called attention to page 9/10 in the November issue of the Equiery regarding the Maryland Horse Council County Forums. Luke Welling is the Forum Moderator for Carroll County. Janet will make contact, invite him to the next meeting and invite him to join CCEC. See page 66 for info on several ways to stay up to date with the Maryland Horse Council news.

Trail Guides
Bridget McCullough indicated the CCEC should consider having volunteer trail guides…riders who are familiar with a trail in an area that would be willing to act as a guide on an as needed basis. Request for volunteers will be included in the minutes. Joe Zentgraf volunteered as Trail Ride Coordinator.

Calendar of Events 2014
CCEC 30th Anniversary – Future Special Programs and Events Discussion was held regarding several activities/events. The Calendar of Events will need to be finalized at the December meeting in preparation for distribution at Horse World Expo in January 2014.

December 3rd Meeting
  Peggy Miller reminded members of the Holiday Party/Food Drive for the December 3rd meeting. Asked that expiration dates be checked on all non-perishable food donations. Please….no expired food.
