General Meeting March 7, 2017

  Meeting held at Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Room 003-004 Lower Level, Westminster, MD and called to order at 7:35 by Darlene Welsh, President.

  Motion to approve minutes of February 7, 2017 by Lynda Arnold; second by Peggy Miller. Motion passed.

Equestrian Center Report: Lynda Arnold
  Lynda Arnold reported a meeting with Doug Lindsay (Chief, Bureau of Facilities) and Blaine Flickinger (Facilities Supervisor) was held at the Equestrian Center on 2/28/17 to request assistance in mowing the Center prior to the scheduled events on Saturday, May 6 and on (Sundays) April 30, May 14, June 11, June 25, July 9, August 13 and August 27. No response to date.
  Tina Shupp reported the Department of Recreation and Parks indicated it is time to renew the criminal background checks for those councils offering youth programming.
Equestrian Center Maintenance
  Lynda Arnold reported she has made contact with an “on-call” vender that will mow as necessary. She also reported the gates to the rings were found unlocked again. Peggy Miller advised the need to purchase two wheels/tires for the portable judges stands since two had been stolen as reported earlier. Estimate is $40.00 each. Motion by Janet Breeding to purchase the replacement wheels/tires; second by Lynda Arnold. Motion passed. Peggy Miller reported there are (5) 16’ fence boards and (1) 8’ fence board on hand at the Center and if more are needed, she will make arrangements to get them. Peggy Miller reported the number of hours on the John Deere mower at the Center is 285.6 The combination to the rings will be changed on April 1, 2017. New Rules/Release forms must be signed and Carroll County Equestrian Council membership is required. Forms were mailed to the current 120 users (14 were paid members for 2017.) Copy of notice attached. Earlier discussion was held regarding posting the rules in a place visible to all users such as a “easel” type sign. Carolyn will contact Shannon Baum Signs to obtain a price.

4-H Therapeutic Riding Program of Carroll County- Horse Fair Sunday March 26, 2017 from 9:00 – 2:00 at the Shipley Arena/ Carroll County Ag Center, Westminster, MD.
Darlene Welsh volunteered to set up/take down the booth. Sign up sheet was distributed to fill the one hour time slots/sheet will be available for completion at the March 7 meeting.

  Social Dinners
Darlene Welsh reminded everyone of the Spring Social Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, 6:00 p.m. at Brick Ridge Restaurant, 6212 Ridge Road (Route 27) Mt. Airy, MD. RSVP by 3/12/17 to Darlene Welsh 443-289-8926.
The Fall Social Dinner will be held in October/date and location to be announced.
