General Meeting October 2, 2014
Location and Time:
  Meeting held at Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center Street, Room 003-004 Lower Level, Westminster, MD and called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Darlene Welsh, President.

Volunteer Hours
  September 2014: 269.5 hours
Secretary's Report:
  Motion by Dave Radcliffe to approve the minutes of the meeting held on September 2, 2014; second by Joe Zentgraf. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report:
  Darlene Welsh reported the BB&T CD was renewed for $10,000(at .350%) and is due to be renewed on 08/18/15. Report for September 2014 View Here
Equestrian Center Report: Darlene Welsh
  Via email Bridget McCullough reported Harrison Mule Days held October 3, 4, 5, 2014 was the last scheduled event at the Center. No inquiries for 2015 have been received to date. Special thanks to Bob Miller for the great new jump!
Equestrian Center Maintenance Report:
  After the meeting, report provided by Peggy Miller thanked Linda Polzin, Bob & Peggy Miller for mowing during the month of September. On 9/29/14, Mike Roche and Bob Miller installed the new jump constructed by Bob Miller. Joe Zentgraf repaired the “bridge” and numerous other places at “Joe’s Playground.” Peggy’s note indicated “I have had a lot of positive feedback regarding the new jump and the switchback Jon Arnold did on the trail.”
  Tina Shupp reported the Volunteer of the Year program will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Robert Moton Center, 300 S. Center Street, Westminster, MD. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m. and Awards program at 7:00 p.m. Information on Bus Trips, Prints for a Purpose Fundraiser on 10/11/14 and Bark-n-Howl on 10/25/14 is available online ( or at the Recreation and Parks Office.
Old Business
  Tree Trimming at the Equestrian Center
Via email Bridget McCullough reported DuBois Tree Service completed the tree work on 10/06/14 since the original date of 09/25/14 was rained out and was rescheduled. Elisha Harrison/Harrison Mule Days extended compliments and thanks for trimming the trees, in particular, along the road.

Gillis Falls Trail Work Day on 09/06/14
Carolyn Garber advised there was a special mailing (reminder of the trail work day on 09/06/14) sent to members/users of the Equestrian Center that live in the immediate area to recruit more volunteers for the trail work day. After the meeting, report provided by Peggy Miller indicated she and Jon Arnold worked on Joe’s trail by clearing debris, trimming and marking the trail with tape. Weeds around the kick boards inside Ring 1 were also pulled. Joe Zentgraf reported he rode the trails in preparation for the Guided Ride to be held on 09/21/14 and found them to be in good shape.

Morgan Run NEA Trail Work Day on 09/13/14
Carolyn Garber reported the rainy weather limited what could be done; however thanks to Dave Radcliffe for mowing the trails and for helping to restore the two picnic tables near the parking area to a useable location. Thanks to Mickey Rogers, Robin Eason, Howard & Marty Lanham for their work.

Union Mills Trail Work Day on 09/14/14
Jessica Dustin reported another successful trail clean up thanks to e Mike and Jessica Dustin, Connie Henry, David Bailey, Jon Green, and Marilyn and Paul Cross. Special thanks to the Cross family that brought their tractor and bush hog. The trails are looking good!

30th Anniversary/Fun Day/Reunion Potluck Picnic on 09/21/14
Darlene Welsh thanked all who helped to plan the event and attended; a great day and wonderful meal was enjoyed by all.

Piney Run Trail Work Day on 09/27/14
Via email Bridget McCullough thanked Steve Weaver and Linda Polzin for helping that day. The bridge deterioration, as reported after the first trail work day at Piney Run, continues. There is no signage to discourage horses from using the bridge nor has it been repaired.

2014 Four Seasons Facebook Photo Contest
Congratulations to our “Summer” winner - Susan White. A $20 gift certificate to Southern States Farm & Home Service in Sykesville was awarded to her. Be sure to get out your cameras and take photos for the “Fall” season….details on the Facebook page

Equestrian Center “Exit” Plan
Lynda Arnold reported she was advised that under 5000 square feet does not require a permit. She will check on the availability of obtaining millings from the County stockpile. Jessica Dustin offered the assistance of Mike Dustin/Lynda will contact Mike to meet at the site for more details on what is needed.

Social Dinner at Buttersburg Inn on 10/28/14
Darlene Welsh explained this is a social event; no need to bring the flier since it is not a fundraiser. She will check with Buttersburg Inn to determine if a fee will be charged for the use of the banquet room that evening. RSVP to Darlene 410-861-5634 or via the Facebook page by Monday, 10/27/14.
